About the Author
Adrian Raeside was born 1957 in Dunedin, New Zealand. At the age of 15 he moved with his parents to England then on to Canada, where he worked at various jobs from loading grain ships in Thunder Bay, to surveying on the West Coast. Editorial cartoonist for the Victoria Times Colonist for 32 years, Raeside's editorial cartoons appear in over 200 newspapers and magazines worldwide, from the Los Angeles Times, to Newsweek Japan.In 1988, Raeside began producing animated editorial cartoons for the CBC Journal, going on to create, direct and produce dozens of animated shows for Turner Broadcasting and Children's Television Workshop - adapting Jim Henson Muppet characters for animation. Raeside is the author of over a dozen books. He lives in Whistler, BC.

This was such a great book! I’m not going to lie it was a little hard to get through because it is very honest and sad. It basically described our situation of how we lost our dog. So my advice to parents READ IT BY YOURSELF FIRST! especially if you were just as attached to your pet.
I am a student clinical social worker and have been interning at a private practice mental health agency for 6 months. This book is a great way to help children and adults process their emotions when dealing with grief and loss of a animal. I highly recommend this book to any medical professional or nonprofessional!
The book tells the legend of the rainbow bridge in a way kids can understand. I bought this to help my five year old cope with the upcoming loss of our dying dog. I believe reading this to him a few times before our dog died helped him deal with the eventual loss better than he would have. When he came home from school one day and our dog was gone, he could relate to the book.The only negative comment I have is that the book ends with the family getting another dog for Christmas. This led to the expectation from my son that we would be getting another dog right away.
My puppy of 15+ years just passed away....I cried when I read this book but it made everything more clear to me. I am 59 years old and now I believe in the Rainbow Bridge too. This is a must for all people of all ages, make sure children know this story, it softens the pain of losing your beloved pet.
My son is 10. Last week we had to put his cat down very suddenly. We tried to explain the rainbow bridge but he was just too upset to grasp it. This book has helped him process losing his kitty. It is an easy read and includes humor that helps ease the tension. Colorful illustration, excellent story. This is a story about a boy that loses his pet, and how he takes a trip to the rainbow bridge. Highly recommend.
great book to explain an animals death to a child. Be warned tho, it will make the adult cry.
This was a very wordy story and more like a self published pamphlet than a book. It would not work for young children which is likely a big target audience.
For several years, I heard pet owners use the phase "over the rainbow bridge" when referencing their deceased pet. When I recently had to euthanize my cat, Chloe, due to liver failure, I wanted to read the whole story about the "famous" bridge. Well worth the purchase. I laughed and cried. The story may not be appropriate for very young children, however. Use your own judgment.
