I spent my money on a list of makes and models. 77% of this book are spec sheets from various manufacturers. I was hoping for some educated opinions on caliber choices and their strengths/weaknesses. Maybe even some insight into useful accessories. The DIY section simply directs you to a website with building instructions. There a tiny bits of valuable info in various parts of the book but nothing worthy of being called a "Bible"
I usually rely on any pub from shooters bible to be complete and full if info/ For $19 this is not worth it. It has a history of the AR, but what follows is about 60% of the book devoted to 2 listings of manufacturers. so basically I've pad for a "who makes it" list I could have gotten free from the net. SB is slipping on quality IMHO.
Great book with lots of useful information. I didn't think I could learn anything possibly new about the AR-15 but this book disproved that. If you'd like to know more about this weapon, this is a great book to have. Very detailed with lots of photos.
These are more like textbooks. If you are interested in an AR this is the book for you. Let's you know how they are built. How to build one. What parts are what you want. Then by manufacturer lists each gun and what the retail price should be. As well as the statistics of each gun. You won't find better information.
A catalog. Don’t waste your money.
Well, I didn't get what I thought I was getting but for what it is, it's a really nice glossy book on AR-15s from the numerous manufacturers out there. I thought this book would be a competitor to the Patrick Sweeney books on the AR-15 but I did not do enough research on what this book actually contains. I was surprised at so little content of the book was on the history and the working mechanics of the AR-15 as compared to the bulk of the book, which is a listing of all manufacturers and small pictures of each rifle. It is similar to the buying guides you can buy at your magazine stand at the end of the year only with a little more description on each, which can be helpful, but not much. There is one longer review of the Ruger AR-15, which was similar to reviews you can find online and in recent magazines but not nearly as thorough.The book is soft cover but with heavier material and all the pages are glossy with color pictures, which is not true of the Sweeney books on the AR-15, which is regular paper with black and white pictures.The beginning of the book started out really well with the history and a look into the insides of the AR-15. I thought that maybe it could have been a little more thorough. What was covered was quite good.So, about 15 to 20% of the book is AR-15 data, and then the rest of the book is the buying guide.There is also some buying guide attention to peripherals and accessories for the AR-15, which wasn't very long nor was it comprehensive.So, I guess I wouldn't call this a 'bible' since, in my opinion, the book should be comprehensive and much larger and provide a whole lot more detail as other 'bible' books do.I give it 4 stars for quality binding and paging, very nice photography in color, and for good content, even if it was less than I expected.
146 of 230 pages is a catalog of new guns. Taking the Bible analogy in the title, the bulk of this book is a Christian supply catalog the rest of it is chapters on how to read Christian literature.
As an ignorant non owner of a gun I wanted to learn about a rapid firing popular gun.If you desire knowledge about AR-15 read this book.
