A small selection of book errors found up to page 179:* pg. 26 problems 10 and 12 have decimal points where there should be commas* pg 55 middle of the page the example has a 25 in the denominator rather than a 24* pg 115 problems 4-6 use data from a graph and they assign values to 1992 and 1994 that don't match the graph shown* pg 178 shows "5,370.00 = 149.17"* shows stock prices as fractions (out of date)* talks about "effective annual rates" which are used in Europe, rather than APR which is used in the US - the rest of the book is decidedly US based.I am using this for a 2 year college business math class and have been terribly disappointed.I have started offering points for students who find mistakes in the book.I am hoping to find a business math textbook that is reasonably priced, but this was a mistake.Do I really need to make my students pay $200 for a text? Are good proof readers really that expensive?I am giving it 2 stars for some of the information it covers correctly, and because it is on the right track but in desperate need of better proofing, cleaner explanations and some updates.
Purchased this for a brush up on my math skills. The book also includes personal finance, insurance, and business / shopping areas. I think that it is a good book for anyone to brush up on their skills and mathematical knowledge. Who would benefit the most from this is high-school and college age as it is a lot of basics for common life situations. It is written very easily for the most basic so anyone can learn with just some very, very basic math skills.
I received this book very quickly. It's brand new (smaller size was unexpected, but no biggie). What I like about this book -- and can't wait to become quite knowledgeable in -- is its' coverage of real estate, finance -- stocks, bonds, income statements, interest rates -- all things related to how to use or master math in the world of business. Can't wait to complete it. This will serve me well. I've decided to take the route of 'self-learning' as a way to stave off the 'highway robbery of college' these days. If you're looking to warm-up on your math and take what you've learned in math and connect it to the real world in real terms, this book is for you. Try it.
This is a very easy book to understand. Lessons are not very long and that makes it manageable. I do wish that it included tests, however.
My daughter used this book for her senior year of high school, and absolutely loved it. It starts out with very elementary math, but you can skip those chapters by taking the tests at the end (if you ace it, skip ahead). All in all, the examples were clear, the work was enjoyable, and I definitely recommend this book!
