I teach 5th grade history, including the European Renaissance. I bought this book hoping to read it to my class along with the lesson on Leonardo da Vinci. There is so much information in the book that it would easily take an hour to read to the class. Instead I will read excerpts of this beautifully illustrated book and encourage my students who are interested in the detailed life of Leonardo da Vinci to read it. It is a biography that celebrates the life, ideas, and work of this extraordinary man. It is kid-friendly, well-written, beautifully-illustrated book.
Leonardo:Beautiful Dreamer book. This is a superb book that I ordered for my six year old grandson. It's a little too sophisticated for him though and I'm going to keep it for another year or two before giving it to him. I do not regret buying the book because this type of special book is not always available forever and I would hate to have missed it. I just think that at age six, he is not ready for it yet.
These books are so interesting to my students. The illustrations by Peter Sis bring the people to life. At times, this book can appear a bit busy-the text and illustrations are both so forceful that they overpower each other instead of complimenting, but middle school students will find this a nice text in a text set on inventors, the Renaissance, or Italy.
Bought for a student who wanted to know more. Beautiful book and extremely informative.
